Budget 2025 is the first budget tabled in Parliament to exceed RM400 billion and marks a continued trend of increased spending under the Anwar Ibrahim administration.
This time, the increased spending is mainly to account for the additional money needed to pay civil servants.
Civil service and pensions
The increase in spending on civil servants is due to the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA), which raises wages, allowances, and pensions for civil servants, among others.
